M:ST FESTIVAL DIRECTOR JOB  DESCRIPTION:

This is a full-time position, working 35 hours a week. The Festival Director will oversee all day-to-day operations of the festival and direction of the M:ST 5 Festival initiative in October 2010, including but not limited to the following responsibilities:

PROGRAMMING

-Work with the Board of Directors and Programming Committee to select, administrate and implement M:ST programs as required 

-Maintain submissions database, artist files and contracts, festival production schedules

-Initiate and maintain contact with artists, and performance art presenters, attend national festivals, and participate in panel discussions, workshops, meetings or related networking opportunities

-Coordinate publicity, advertising and dissemination of information about the festival

-Work with the Board of Directors to hire program staff, contract, technical and support staff and coordinate volunteers for the festival and day-to-day operations. Write job descriptions and contracts where required.

-Act as a representative of the Festival within Southern Alberta, liaise with member organizations, administrators, staff, and artists from diverse visual and media arts organizations.

GRANT WRITING + FUNDRAISING

-Prepare grants for federal, provincial, and municipal government granting programs for the programming, operations and staffing of the festival, prepare final reports for granting agencies, and ensure that all agencies and sponsors are properly acknowledged.

-Secure community, corporate and private sponsorships for the programming, operations and staffing of the festival.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT + ADMINISTRATION

-Work with the Treasurer and Finance Committee to oversee all financial aspects of the festival, and prepare regular financial reports for the Board of Directors.

-Work with the Treasurer and accountant to develop and operate within an annual budget.

-Establish and maintain sound administrative procedures with a structure that accommodates all participating organizations.

-Maintain a well-organized office, and filing system with accurate and accessible records.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

-Keen knowledge of contemporary performative art practices, and surrounding critical discourses and involvement as a performance, visual or media artist, curator, writer or presenter.

-Working knowledge of Artist-Run Centres, Public, and Institutional Galleries and their operations with a minimum of 1 year prior experience as a paid staff member at an Artist-Run Centre, Public, or Institutional Gallery.

-Experience with grant writing, budget preparations and responsible financial management.

-Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize work and manage several tasks simultaneously; excellent verbal and written communication skills, proficient computer skills.

-Self-motivation and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
