Over the past 15 years, Chris Lloyd has developed a body of work exploring Canadian identity, including the national obsession with hockey. As the Everyday Goalie, Lloyd dons an old-fashioned Team Canada jersey and classic street-hockey gear, making save after save against unseen adversaries in emblematic Canadian locations. With these futile sporting gestures, what is he attempting to save: mythic Canadian landscapes, national landmarks, a collective ideal or his long-suffering art career?
The Everyday Goalie performances are also featured in videos that document with humour the failure derived from the literal juxtaposition of iconic hockey imagery and the vast Canadian wilderness.
